R.I.P Desiree Hines

Just completed a setting of 2 peoms by John Keats poems for guitar and tenor. And a organ Prelude in memory of organist Desiree Hines. I hope to have it posted on ScoreExchange by Friday.

On Death

I.

Can death be sleep, when life is but a dream,
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain’s to die.

II.

How strange it is that man on earth should roam,
And lead a life of woe, but not forsake
His rugged path; nor dare he view alone
His future doom which is but to awake.

Liberation of the arts

Yesterday, at a food tasting for the San Francisco location of Caña. Chef Chari shared his intentions; not to copy traditional Cuban.

Cubans don’t go out to eat arroz con pollo,
they can get that at home.
I’m trying to liberate Cuban food

.

We, the people who create; music, art, homes, and food. Have unique inspirations and retrospectives within our craft. We must liberate the our craft. Liberate classical music.

Lots of great News From San Francisco

Just arrived to my new home San Francisco. My Music will be coming soon to WQXR’s Q2 Radio based in New York City, I will post when It can be heard on Twitter and my Facebook.

I just completed a commissioned arrangement of the late Meyer Kupferman’s Currents composed for Patmore Lewis last week. Now Me and Mr. Lewis are looking for an orchestra to premiere the work.

My composing continues, finishing up my second brass quintet commissioned from The Brass Stranded to be world premiered November 2012! Everything is moving so quickly.

Future plans; Trying to receive rights for the poetry of Maya Angelou, I would like to premiere two song  cycles for black history month February 2013. Intending to apply for grad school for Fall 2013 might push it back to Fall 2014.

Keep posted things will get better!
